Please Note: If your job requires extensive flexographic preparation, trapping or rework, an hourly charge will apply.
Tips in Preparing Electronic Art
- Please provide both the Screen(Bitmap) and Printer(Postscript) elements
of each font used. If this is not possible, convert your type into paths.
In Freehand®, this command is "Convert to Paths," in
Adobe Illustrator® use "Create Outlines," and in CorelDraw!®
use "Convert to Curves."
- Do not use TrueType® fonts when creating your files. These fonts
will not output correctly on our high resolution printers.
- When applying a "Style" to type, do not use the measurement
or effects palettes. Select the actual typestyle from the font menu.
This will ensure that the font will output correctly on our imagesetters.
- When working in PageMaker 4.2 or later, do not use the "Save
copy in publication" option for graphics. Original linked graphics
must be sent with the PageMaker file.
- Eliminate all unnecessary elements in your file including extraneous
colors, patterns, and other elements that may be invisible or behind
other elements or layers.
- If importing EPS files created by Freehand 3.0 or later, send us both
the illustration (parent file) and EPS file; OR check "Include
Freehand document in EPS file" when exporting.
- Provide sized art in the correct rotated position. Sizing, cropping
and rotating raster images(such as Adobe Photoshop images) in a page
layout application are very complex operations and may take a long time
to process and create a poor quality image.
- Make spot color names consistent, especially if more than one application
is used to create your label.
- For halftones, provide a gray scale image. Screen frequency changes
for different stocks.
- Copy all graphics required for your file and place them in the same
folder or directory as the output file. Make sure the correct versions
of all images are linked to their correct placements in the file.
- When colors touch, we may need to create traps. Your artwork needs
to be prepared so the colors are in an editable format. If not, an additional
cost will be incurred.
- Please name all files in the DOS 8+3 format(example.cdr). The 3 letter
extension will associate the file with an application.
Important Instructions For All Electronic Files
- Create your artwork the exact size of the label.
- If your order includes more than one label, please setup each label
as a separate document.
- For one color jobs, leave all items(text and graphics) spot black
and put the appropriate ink color on the order form.
- Insure you use editable spot colors and that your text and graphics
are colored correctly and uniformly if more than one application is
used to create your label.
Software Specific Instructions for Electronic Files
Macromedia Freehand®
- Convert to Paths and group all text in your document if you
are unable to provide both the screen and printer fonts.
- If importing graphics (EPS files), send us both the original illustration
and EPS file; or check Include Freehand document in EPS file
when exporting.
Adobe Illustrator®
- Convert all Text to Outlines and group all text in your document
if you are unable to provide both the screen and printer fonts.
- If importing graphics (EPS files), send us both the original illustration
and EPS file.
QuarkXPress®
- If importing graphics (EPS files), send us both the original illustration
and EPS file. Also do not change the name of the graphic after it has
been imported. The graphic will not print properly because it will be
MISSING when we print the file.
Adobe PageMaker®
- Do not use the GROUP option in PageMaker. Items grouped by
PageMaker do not print properly on our high resolution imagesetters.
- If importing graphics (EPS files), send us both the original illustration
and EPS file. Do not use the "Save copy in publication"
option for graphics. Original linked graphics must be sent with the
PageMaker file or the file will not print properly.
CorelDraw!®
- Convert all text to Convert to Curves and group all text in
your document if you are unable to provide both the screen and printer
fonts.
Most software packages allow you to import artwork (logos, graphics,
etc.) created in other software packages. If you have used the "Import"
or "Place" command to bring images into your primary artwork
file, please include the original document used to create the imported
TIFF or EPS file.
Your imported graphics files may contain "non-standard" fonts.
If so, please follow the guide lines for non-standard fonts.
Our standard type library includes all Adobe screen and printer fonts,
Volumes 1-330 (excluding TrueType fonts). These fonts do not need
to be included on your diskette.
Any fonts from other manufacturers (e.g. Bitstream Futura) are non-standard
to our library and must be included with your file. Please
include a copy of both the screen font(s) and the printer font(s). After
we have shipped your order, we will delete the fonts from our system. Lin-Pak
is not responsible for and cannot legally store your fonts.
They will be deleted from the system as soon as your order is processed
Flexographic Printing Requirements
To avoid questions or delays in production of your electronic file, simply
follow the specifications below.
- Create your artwork the exact size of the label.
- Keep the design 1/16" in from the edge of the label.
- Extend any bleeds 1/16" outside the edge of the label.
- Use a minimum rule line weight of .007" or .5 points for positive
copy. For reverse copy, the minimum rule line weight is .01" or
.7 points.
- The smallest type size is 5 points for positive copy. For reverse
copy, the smallest point size is 7 points in a bold face.
- Separate printing plates are required for screens and halftones. This
will incur an additional charge. We can print up to 6 colors (including
screens) per label. Double-check that your colors are spot colors
not process colors (CMYK).
- If your design requires a graduated screen, remember 5% is the minimum
rather than graduating to 0%. Do not blend two colors or screened colors.
- For specialty printing (i.e., foil stamping, screen printing, 4 color
process or laser), ask for requirements.
These instructions are just a basic outline for what we need you to supply
to us. If you have any further questions on this matter, just let us know.
